Lost Kitsune

For this project I chose to make a movie for the Oculus Rift, which is a virtual reality head-mounted display that allows the user to look around. While researching if and how common cinematic techniques (i.e. shots, cuts) could be adapted in the virtual world, I overcame challenges such as motion sickness. I also found out that some shots are working very well in the virtual reality and several others that aren’t. For example zooms, scripted or pre-animated camera motions and detail shots tend to make the user uncomfortable. The story is about a kitsune, which is a japanese fox spirit, who leads the viewer trough a forest to the temple of the fox god, called Inari. Storytelling and storyboards are different from the „traditional“ movie considering the viewer can turn his head 360°. My short movie is variable in length, as most actions in a scene require the user to look at them directly to activate and start.
